Cameroonian soldiers invade Nigerian community - Residents raise alarm

- Some Cameroonian soldiers have reportedly invaded a community in Cross River state

- The soldiers, residents said, were in search of some Boko Haram members who were said to have taken refuge in the community

- They stormed Danare community in Boko local government area at about 2 pm on Tuesday, January 30

Some soldiers from Cameroon have invaded Danare community in Boki local government are of Cross River state, Vanguard reports.

These soldiers - numbering over 80 - were said to have crossed the international border between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Sources said the soldiers claimed they were in the community to fight Boko Haram terrorists who took refuge in the community.

It was also gathered that more than 3,000 refugees are currently taking refuge at a camp in Danare.

Some of the indigenes who addressed journalists in Calabar on Tuesday, January 30, said the soldiers stormed their village at about 2 pm on the same day.

A former councillor in Boko Council, Douglas Ogar said: “It is important to recall the sad invasion of Danare communities by Cameroonian soldiers on January 25 this year when more than 80 well armed Cameroonian soldiers crossed the international boundary in the Danare-Daddi/Danare-Bodam international border openings and abducted five natives.

"By the time they left this morning (yesterday), they said their mission was to warn residents of Danare communities to be aware of their return to carry out a military raid.

"According to them, it was intended to cleanse Danare communities of all Ambazonia refugees’ threat to the Cameroon government."

Ogar said the invasion by the soldiers only shows how weak the Cameroonian government sees Nigeria.

He said: “The soldiers threatened to come back to Danare to execute the proscription of Southern Cameroonians taking asylum in Danare as a result of the ongoing Anbazonia crises which resulted in the mass influx of refugees from neighbouring southern Cameroon villages to Danare communities and many other Nigerian border communities.

“This is a calculated offensive from Cameroon military on Nigeria. They have shown outright defiance to Nigeria’s territorial sovereignty and dammed the consequences of crossing the international boundary to carrying out all sort of intimidation and harassment on already alarmed citizens of Danare, with warnings of their further assault.

“They have weighed the vulnerability of defenceless residents of Danare and concluded that it was capable of inflicting mass death on the citizens of Nigeria and refugees of Southern Cameroon hosted in Danare.

“The Paul Byia contingents are leveraging on the poor security state of Danare border and all Boki communities to hatch a well-thought out genocide."

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian government on Friday, January 26, deported Cameroonian separatist leader, Julius Ayuk Tabe, who is also the president of a self-declared breakaway state and 11 others.

The leaders were arrested at Nera Hotels Abuja on Saturday, January 6.

Femi Falana who has been providing legal support for them said Tabe and the others were detained at the Defence Intelligence Agency, adding that the detainees were largely held incommunicado, which included denial of access to their lawyers, doctors and family member.
