APC will present restructuring panel report to Nigerians on January 31 - Bolaji Abdullahi

- The APC national publicity secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi declared that the party would present restructuring panel to Nigerians

- Abdullahi said the party was poised to present the document to the public as part of the process that would lead to its validation

- He noted that after the public presentation, the national working committee will present its input to the caucus and the national executive committee

The All Progressives Congress on Monday, January 29, announced that it would present the report of its panel on true federalism to members of the public on Wednesday, January 30.

Punch reports that John Odigie-Oyegun-led national working committee of the party resolved to make the document public as part of efforts to enhance transparency.

Legit.ng gathered that the party’s national publicity secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed the development.

He confirmed that the party was poised to present the document to the public as part of the process that would lead to its validation by other organs of the APC before the party’s final position would be announced.

He said: ''After the public presentation, the national working committee will then make its input after which it will be presented to the caucus and the national executive committee.

''After the party’s NEC approves the final draft, parts of the report, which will require legislation or an amendment to the Nigerian constitution, will be forwarded to the National Assembly while those requiring immediate executive action will be forwarded to the president.''

The governor Nasir el-Rufai-led panel had presented its final report to the APC NWC on Thursday last week.

The committee made 10 far-reaching recommendations for the devolution of powers to states in order to restructure Nigeria.

The panel, among other things, proposed that greater autonomy should be granted to states by moving certain items from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.

The chairman of the committee, el-Rufai, who is also the governor of Kaduna state, presented the report to the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led APC national working committee.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Bayelsa state governor Dickson praised the latest moves to restructure Nigeria by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Dickson on Friday, January 26, commended the APC’s restructuring committee chaird by Nasir El-Rufai over the recommendations it made in its report recently submitted to Odigie-Oyegun.

According to the report, while Dickson believes that there is still a lot to be done because restructuring a nation as big as Nigeria can be cumbersome; he was however impressed by the moves made the APC so far.
