Nigerian Air Force aircraft destroys Boko Haram terrorists artillery gun (video)

- Nigerian Air Force has carried out air raids, causing heavy damage to Boko Haram insurgents

- The bombardment followed intelligence report that terrorists were withdrawing after an unsuccessful operation

- The air strikes are part of the ongoing operations aimed at ridding the Sambisa Forest of the remnants of the insurgents

A Nigerian Air Force aircraft has destroyed an artillery gun and some gun trucks belonging to the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the Sambisa forest.

The Air Force confirmed the operation in a brief statement on Monday, January 29, by the director of public relations and information, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya.

According to the release, the operation was carried out on Saturday, January 27, by a remotely piloted aircraft.

The statement read: "Nigeria Air Force (NAF) remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), on 27 January 2018, successfully destroyed an artillery gun and some gun trucks belonging to the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the Sambisa Forest.

"A NAF Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform and the RPA had observed the terrorists withdrawing with the artillery gun and gun trucks after an unsuccessful operation.

"The NAF crews on both the ISR and the armed RPA trailed the withdrawing insurgents to their final destination in Parisu.

"Thereafter, the RPA acquired the artillery gun position and attacked the piece, causing a huge explosion and destroying the equipment. The explosion also killed insurgents operating the equipment and those around it while a few others were sighted fleeing from the site of the explosion.

The successful air strikes are part of the ongoing coordinated air and land operations aimed at ridding the Sambisa Forest of the remnants of the insurgents."

In a previous report by Legit.ng, eleven young officers were on Wednesday, January 17, winged by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

The officers successfully qualified at 401 Flying Training School in Kaduna in November 2016 and were later sent to Westline Aviation School where they commenced their course from January 16, 2017 to December 16, 2017.
