Saraki reacts to Benue Massacre, calls for perpetrators to be apprehended

- Senate president Bukola Saraki has reacted to the New Year Day killings in various communities in Benue state, reportedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen

- Saraki described the incident as a 'reprehensible act of violence', and stated that such actions do not have any place in the country

- The Senate president stated that the upper legislative chamber would continue to render all necessary support to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice

Dr Bukola Saraki, the president of the Senate, has expressed sadness over the killings which were reportedly carried out by suspected Fulani herdsman in some communities in Benue state on New Year Day.

Saraki made his comments in tweets released via his personal twitter handle, @bukolasaraki, on Thursday, January 4.

Legit.ng notes that the Senate president condemned the killings, stating that they had no place in Nigeria.

Saraki also called for the perpetrators to be apprehended.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Fulani herdsmen killed no fewer than 20 people in Benue state.

The attack occurred on New Year day, Monday, January 1; and was confirmed by the state governor, Samuel Ortom, who disclosed that the attacks took place in some communities in Logo and Guma local government areas of Benue.

The casualty figures were confirmed from hospitals where the victims were rushed to after the attack.
