Boko Haram executes eight villagers for defying Sharia police in Borno

- Boko Haram has continued its campaign of terror the north-east

- This is despite efforts by the Nigerian Military to completely wipe out the insurgents

- The terrorists have carried out their dastardly acts alongside their propangada aimed at creating chaos

A report by The Guardian indicates that Boko Haram publicly executed eight villagers in the north-east.

According to the report, those murdered were opposed to the enforcement of the terrorists hard-line form of Islam.

The report described a video where eight people were said to be blindfolded and lying face down on the ground when they were shot at close range by four masked gunmen.

A crowd was seen cheering in the images showed, according to the report.

One man wearing a white turban told the crowd before the execution that the condemned villagers were "apostates (who) have left the fold of Islam."

“These people are not different from vigilantes fighting us, spies and Nigerian soldiers,” said the unidentified man in Hausa.

He said the eight had defied Boko Haram's "Sharia police," members who ensure the group's strict interpretation of Islamic law is enforced and threatened to fight them.

The man warned that anyone else defying the jihadists would suffer a similar fate

It was not clear when or where the gruesome footage was taken but lush vegetation indicated it was in the ongoing rainy season.

The video showed other punishments, including stoning to death for adultery; beheading for drug dealing; amputations for theft; and flogging for drinking alcohol.

Boko Haram's message appears to be part of its propaganda to debunk Nigerian Military claims that it has lost all territories under its control.

The video is the one of the series of videos the Islamist group releases from time to time to show off its strength.

Since early 2015, Boko Haram has been forced out by sustained counter-insurgency operations involving troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

The Nigerian Military claims the group is virtually defeated but the latest footage demonstrates there remains pockets where Boko Haram still operates and holds sway over local populations.

Meanwhile, Senator Ali Ndume (APC/Borno South), on Sunday, July 9, expressed deep concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks in Borno, and described the situation as “worrisome.”

Ndume, currently serving a six-month suspension, told journalists in Maiduguri that he would have invited security chiefs to explain what was happening, if he was in the Senate Chambers.

“In Borno, we were already getting relaxed; we were sleeping with our two eyes closed. Now we are faced with a new challenge.

“If I were at the Senate Chambers, I would have moved a motion to invite those concerned to explain the recent events to the National Assembly,” he said.
