Buhari is taking his doctors' advice - Lai Mohammed explains Buhari's absence at FEC

- President Buhari was absent at the FEC meeting on Wednesday, May 3

- It was the third consecutive time the president would be absent at the meeting

- The Minister of Information however said the president was absent because he needed to rest

President Muhammadu Buhari was absent at the Federal Executive Council meeting which held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, for the third consecutive time.

Legit.ng learnt that the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, while addressing correspondent at the State House after the meeting, said the president was absent at the meeting because he needed rest.

Mohammed said the president was merely following his doctors' advice to take more rest and that the president was at work on Tuesday but decided to take a rest on Wednesday, Premium Times reports.

The minister said: “The president chose today to rest, he was in his office yesterday, which you all reported.

“He is taking his doctors’ advice so that he can fully recover."

There had been expectations that the president would be present at the May 3, FEC meeting but reports state that after the cabinet had awaited the president's arrival, the state house chief of protocols suddenly stepped in at 11.00am and whispered to Vice President Osinbajo and the meeting started without the president.

This is the third time President Muhammadu Buhari would be absent at the Federal Executive meeting.

Legit.ng recalled that after the April 26, FEC meeting, Mohammed had told the pressman that the president was working at home because he needed rest, the same reason that has been given again after today's meeting held without President Muhammadu Buhari.
