Breaking: Saudi Arabia Announces Sighting ot Ramadan Moon

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon on Tuesday, February 17. This marked the commencement of Ramadan 1447/2026 in the Kingdom.

Earlier, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia called on Muslims across the Kingdom to look out for the crescent moon of Ramadan from Tuesday, February 17.

According to the Supreme Court, anyone who sees the moon with either their naked eye or through binoculars should inform the nearest court in the Kingdom and register their testimony or reach out to the nearest centre for assistance in reaching the court, Al-Arabiya reported.

"All praise is due to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions.
"To proceed: The Lunar Crescents Department (Da’irat al-Ahillah) at the Supreme Court held a session on the evening of Tuesday, the 29th of Sha‘ban, 1447 AH — according to the Umm al-Qura calendar — corresponding to 17/2/2026, to review what had been received regarding the sighting of the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan for this year, 1447 AH. After reviewing, examining, and considering all that was received, and in light of what was stated in the Supreme Court’s Decision No. (203/H) dated 29/7/1447 AH, that Tuesday, 1/8/1447 AH corresponding to 20/1/2026 was the first day of Sha‘ban for 1447 AH, and since a number of trustworthy witnesses have testified to seeing the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan tonight, and based on what is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: “Fast when you see it, and end the fast when you see it” (agreed upon), the Department rules that tomorrow, Wednesday, 1/9/1447 AH — according to the Umm al-Qura calendar — corresponding to 18/2/2026, will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for this year, 1447 AH.
