Manchester United Scout to Monitor Flying Eagles Star at FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile

Manchester United have shown keen interest in another Nigerian player who will feature at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.

The Red Devils struggled last season, finishing in 16th position and losing the 2025 UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-time EPL winner has failed to find their rhythm under manager Ruben Amorim, as they were edged out by Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup via penalty shoot-out, 13-12 goals.

Manchester United's scouts will storm the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile to watch Flying Eagles goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt.

According to ScoreNigeria, the 15-year-old is Nigeria's number one goalkeeper at the World Cup as they prepare to take on Norway in their opening match on Monday, September 29.

Harcourt announced his presence to the world with his performance at the U20 AFCON in Egypt, playing a vital role for the Flying Eagles. The Nigeria U20 team lost to South Africa 1-0 in his absence after he sustained an injury.

Nigeria eventually won a bronze medal, as he was named among the CAF Best XI for the tournament.

The 15-year-old also made history with Sporting Lagos, winning the inaugural Gothia Cup in Sweden.

The Flying Eagles star became the youngest goalkeeper to feature for the country at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Zanzibar, and was named in the provisional list squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, per This Day.

Various clubs in France, Belgium, and Germany are reportedly monitoring Harcourt’s progress, with several inviting him to training and assessment camps.

We'll compete well - Zubairu

Nigeria U20 coach Aliyu Zubairu has expressed optimism ahead of the 2025 FIFA World Cup in Chile.

According to Daily Post, Zubairu explained that the coaching crew have identified their deficiency and corrections applied.

The former El Kanemi Warriors coach believes that the results from the tournament can turn out to be in their favour. He said:

"We have mutual respect for our opponents but I believe our six weeks of preparation have given us the edge to compete. This current crop of boys are focused, disciplined, and eager to show what they can do.
“In the two friendly matches we played here, the results were not even the most important thing. What mattered to us was identifying our deficiencies and working on them.”
