English football is mourning the death of 21-year-old Billy Vigar, a former Arsenal academy forward, who tragically died after sustaining a severe brain injury during a match for Chichester City.

This follows the July report of the death of Ethan Ade-Oduwale, who passed away at the age of 10.

According to The Sun, Vigar’s incident occurred on Saturday during a lower division match against Wingate and Finchley.

Just 15 minutes into the match, Vigar suffered a horrific collision with a hard pitchside surface, forcing the game to be immediately halted as medical staff rushed to his aid.

Paramedics and ambulance crews treated the 21-year-old star on the scene before an air ambulance transported him to the hospital.

The match was abandoned as news spread of the seriousness of the injury.

Vigar placed in an induced coma

Doctors placed Vigar in an induced coma shortly after arriving at the hospital, where he later underwent surgery in a bid to save his life. Despite the procedure, the injury proved too severe, Sky Sports reports.

His devastated family confirmed on Thursday morning that Vigar had passed away.

“After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy was put in an induced coma,” their statement read.
“Although surgery helped, the injury proved too much for him, and he passed away on Thursday morning. His family are devastated that this happened while he was playing the sport he loved.”

Chichester City Football Club also issued a heartfelt message, saying:

Vigar came through Arsenal’s youth system before signing professional terms in 2022.

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that a young Nigerian football player, Derrick Ikechukwu, has passed away at the age of 23 on Monday morning, September 23.

Ikechukwu played in various academies across England, where he left fond memories in the hearts of his former teammates and coaches. Non-League club Highgate United confirmed the death of the Nigerian player via their X handle on Tuesday afternoon.
