“Cyriel Dessers, who had an unimpressive game in Uyo where he turned out to be a substitute that was substituted, did not have a better game as he was too slow to latch onto passes, could not win aerial balls and did little in bringing alive the Nigerian attack.”
Oliseh says NFF attacks players
1994 AFCON winner Sunday Oliseh complained bitterly about how the Super Eagles failed to defend their captain.
According to AllNigeria, the former Ajax star said the NFF have succeeded in shifting the woeful performance of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the players, while exonerating themselves.
The former Super Eagles manager said the players deserved the treatment meted out to them by the NFF. Oliseh said:
"They are shifting the blame away from the management and putting it on the players. They attack these players and the Super Eagles players none of them have said anything.
"So it is as if they even deserved being criticized because they are not standing as a team. They are not backing their leaders.
"Your captain scored an own goal while trying to defend. It is as if he took the ball with his hand and put it inside. He was trying to defend and scored an own goal."
