Benin Republic put themselves in a spot to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as they currently have 14 points, three behind South Africa, who could be docked three points for fielding an ineligible player.
Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has transformed the Leopards since he took over in 2023, helping them qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Olaitan celebrated Benin Republic’s emphatic victory with a message on his Instagram page, during which he applauded the fans for their support.
“It's always a source of pride, an honor, and a pleasure to wear the Benin jersey. Thank you to the people of Benin for all the love they give us. I'm very happy with the entire team's performance: 1 G 🥅 1 AS 6/6, now the fight continues,” he wrote:
Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala replied under his comments section, claiming she is unsure whether to congratulate the Goztepe forward, to which Olaitan responded, asking her to congratulate him.

Gernot Rohr converts Ishola
Olaitan is primarily a central midfielder, but has been deployed in multiple positions, including on the wing for the national team.
Head coach Gernot Rohr, after the March international break, confirmed that he will move him further forward into the attacking midfield position.
“We have three strikers, one of whom is an attacking midfielder and who we put on the left: it's Olaitan, who comes in and who can also transform into a playmaker behind two strikers,” he said as quoted by Joueurs Beninois.
The conversion yielded results as Olaitan delivered impressive performances in the role against Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
