Luis Suarez has sparked controversy after appearing to spit at a Seattle Sounders’ staff after Inter Miami lost the 2025 Leagues Cup final.

Suarez got tangled with Obed Vargas, during which he held the opponent by the neck before their teammates separated them.

The Uruguayan did not have enough and was seen in another fracas with Sounders’ director of security Gene Ramirez, during which he spat at him.

Fans were disgusted at the incident and called for very harsh punitive measures against the 38-year-old striker, who has a previous history of misbehaviours, including biting.

“Needs to be kicked off the team by his ownership group, but they won’t have the guts to do it. And I doubt the league and @thesoccerdon does anything.”

“Not the 1st time for this guy... he has gotten so many passes because he was a good scorer, but it seems that if you get on his bad side, he has no limits to what he is capable of doing. MLS and Miami need to fine him!!”

According to Goal, the most recent incident of such attitudes was punished with match suspensions. Hector Herrera was banned for three matches for spitting in the direction of a referee, while Jasper Loffelsend earned a two-match suspension in 2023 for spitting at an opponent.

Suarez may not be the only player in trouble; former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets was also spotted - as seen in a video on X - with his hand on an opponent's face.

“Their players were frustrated, and frustrations led to things that shouldn't happen on the field. But that shouldn't be the story,” Seattle Sounders coach said in the aftermath.
