The striker, who scored 37 goals last season, connected with a brilliant cross from Abdülkerim Bardakcı and powered a header past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

The goal gave Gala the necessary cushion before Mauro Icardi’s 90th-minute strike sealed the three points on a dominant night for the champions.

Osimhen, who is expected to fly to Nigeria for the international break, suffered an injury scare after going down in the 41st minute clutching his hamstring.

He shook off the knock and continued the match, playing 90 minutes. New signing Wilfred Singo replaced him for the final minutes of the match.

Osimhen reiterates commitment to Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen, speaking after the match as quoted by GS TV, appreciated the club for bringing him back to the club and promised to continue scoring goals.

"It's great to be back. Everyone wanted me, and I'm finally in the place I call home. I wanted it so bad. I'll be here for years to come,” he said.

The Super Eagles forward confirmed that joining Galatasaray permanently meant he followed his heart over choosing money from other clubs.

"I knew in my heart where I wanted to be. Many people believed in me at this club. They valued me when I worked hard. I saw how much the fans valued me, too,” he said.
“The difficult part was a bit financial. I received big offers from some clubs there. It would be a lie to say I wasn't interested, but I'm happy to be at Galatasaray.”

Multiple sources reported that Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal offered him €45 million per season, three times his guaranteed salary with the Turkish champions.
