WAFCON: Super Falcons Captain Claims FG Yet to Deliver on $100,000 Promise

  • Super Falcons are yet to receive the $100,00 promised to each player by the Federal Government of Nigeria

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade made a bold statement that the Super Falcons players are yet to receive $100,000 reward promised by President Bola Tinubu.

The Nigerian women's national team won the 2025 Africa Women's Cup of Nations after coming from two goals down to beat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final.

Upon their return to the country, they were treated to a lavish reception by the Federal Government, with President Tinubu promising huge rewards.

The players arrived at the Aso Rock Villa amid grandeur and celebration, marked by pomp and champagne.

The high point of the celebration was the moment the president announced that each player in the team would be rewarded with $100,000 each and an equivalent of $50,000 to each technical team member.

Tinubu said via State House:

"You have inspired millions, especially young girls who now see proof that their dreams are valid and achievable.
“You have inspired me, too. And it’s great for a nation to have assets that are the hope of today, tomorrow, and the day after. You represent that hope. You ignited that hope. And we will continue to encourage you, the next generation, and other generations after you,”

Super Falcos yet to receive $100,000 reward

In a chat with Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade expressed disappointment over the delay in payment.

Chude asked:

“Have they delivered the $100,000?”

Ajibade responded:

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid, all the promises, we have not received anything, so let them know.

"When they pay it, you would see. Even our match bonuses and everything are all still work progress."

The president conferred the national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on the team and their technical crew, as well as a three-bedroom flat each.

Ajibade's latest revelation has sparked frenzy on social media.

"While Tinubu jets around on taxpayer-funded luxury, the Super Falcons champions starve for the $100,000 he promised, yet another betrayal from a leader who prioritises palaces over patriots!"

President Tinubu rewards D'Tigress

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Tinubu also rewarded each player of the D’Tigress team with $100,000 and a new apartment for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The team members were also conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
