Vinicius Junior netted a sensational goal to give Real Madrid a 1-0 lead against Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal encounter.

Pep Guardiola's men controlled possession early on at the Santiago Bernabeu but went behind in the 36th minute, thanks to the Brazilian's cracking strike from distance.

According to Goal, Madrid opened the scoring after David Alaba received the ball from Thibaut Courtois, who then sent it wide to Eduardo Camavinga.

After beating the City press with a simple one-two with veteran midfielder Luka Modric, left-back Camavinga surged forward for more than 50 yards and teeing up Vinicius.

The 22-year-old electrifying winger took aim from some 25 yards and his fierce effort whizzed past Ederson and into the top corner.

This was Vinicius' ninth goal in the Champions League so far this term.

Vinicius equals Ronaldo's record

Meanwhile, Vinicius etched his name in the annals of the UEFA Champions League following his splendid goal against Manchester City at the Bernabeu.

The Brazilian unleashed a bullet of a goal to break the deadlock in the semi-final tie between two of Europe's finest teams this season.

His goal drew him level with the club's record goal scorer and the man touted as Mr Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Vini's goal against Man City in their first-leg semi-final clash means he levels Ronaldo's record of either scoring or assisting in 11 consecutive games, per Livescore.
