Arsenal legend Paul Merson has slammed current gaffer of the Gunners Mikel Arteta for his inability to compete for titles this season thereby comparing the Spaniard with Mourinho.

Paul Merson's recent outburst comes days after the Gunners suffered an embarrassing defeat in the Premier League against Liverpool which sent them to 10th position on the table.

As things stand presently, Mikel Arteta and his wards have no chance of making the top four this season in the Premier League.

However, the have a chance to appear in Europe but that is only if they can win the Europa League title where they are currently in the quarterfinal stages.

According to the report on UK Sun, Paul Merson expressed his disappointment to Arsenal's performance tagging it as the worst he has seen.

"What I watched against Liverpool the other day was as bad as I've ever seen.
"People will say about the times under Unai Emery and at the end of Arsene Wenger's reign, but I never saw anything like that.
"All I saw was rolling the ball back to the goalkeeper and he just lumped it down the field.
"When they get beaten and he comes out and takes the blame, he's just doing the opposite to what Jose Mourinho does when he criticises his players.
"But Arteta is thinking exactly the same as Mourinho.''

Meanwhile, Sheffield United will be hosting Arsenal in their next Premier League game on Sunday, April 11.

The Spaniard admitted he was largely responsible for failing to assemble a proper side to deal with their visitors.
