Mesut Ozil's struggles at Fenerbahce continue as the midfielder was stretched off the pitch during his side's 1-1 draw against Antalyaspor.

The 32-year-old German joined the Turkish league giants as a free agent on a three-and-a-half-year deal that will see him earn about £4.5 million annually earlier this year.

However, he has not been able to find his feet at his new club after missing a glorious chance that could have helped The Yellow Canaries claim maximum points after the game.

The former Gunners attacker was unmarked when he got the ball and had plenty of time to convert the chance properly but still could not give his best on the pitch.

He was definitely disappointed with the miss, crouching over in disbelief just under a minute after he had been nutmegged.

Ozil's woes were however compounded after he appeared to have hurt his own ankle following a challenge from Antalyaspor goalscorer Fredy, who had already been booked but saw no further punishment.

And this led to the 2014 World Cup winner being stretchered off on 67 minutes as he was unable to continue, while Irfan Kahveci took his place for the remainder of the encounter.

Daily Mail reports that the midfielder might be out of action for as long as six weeks after sustaining partial tears to his inner and outer lateral ankle ligaments.

And this could see him miss their fixture against rivals Besiktas later this month.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Mesut Ozil has been struggling to hit top form since his famous move to Fenerbahce if stats are anything to go by.

Arsenal terminated Ozil’s hefty contract and the German-made a move to a club he admired as a child, partly to fulfil his mother’s wishes.

The attacking midfielder was handed the number 67 shirt which symbolized his childhood roots and eventually made his debut on February 2 against Hatayspor.
