Odion Ighalo: Man United legend Neville unhappy with former club after signing Nigerian star

- Odion Ighalo joined Manchester United on loan until end of the season

- The 30-year-old became the first Nigerian to sign for the Red Devils after the move

- Gary Neville seems unsatisfied with the deal but admitted that the player could surprise at the end of the season

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has dragged his former club following the signing of former Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo on transfer deadline day.

The Nigerian star joined the Red Devils on a six months loan deal from China-based side Shanghai Shenhua last month.

United brought the AFCON 2019 highest goals scorer as a back-up for injured Marcus Rashford who is not expected back into the team until later this season.

Though not as competitive as the EPL, Ighalo bagged 10 goals in 17 appearances for his parent club last campaign and also won the Chinese FA Cup title.

However, Neville seems unsatisfied with the signing after insinuating that his former club just wanted a 'body in that area'.

Neville told Sky Sports: "Ighalo, they just needed a body in that area,”

“Obviously Rashford’s going to be out for another couple of months. “I can’t let the club off the hook though unfortunately.

The idea that Lukaku told us a couple of weeks ago that he’d said that he was going to leave last February/March is nine months to be able to manoeuvre and get into a position to sign a striker for the long term.

They’ve ended up desperately doing one on transfer deadline day.

Neville, 44, later admitted that the forward may spring up surprises before his short term deal expires in May.

Meanwhile, Old Gunnaer Solskjaer told Man United website that he went after the Nigerian star mainly because of his experience in the league.

Odion is an experienced player,” Solskjaer told the United website. “He will come in and give us an option of a different type of center-forward for the short spell he’s staying with us.

A great lad and very professional, he will make the most of his time here.”

Legit.ng earlier reported Odion Ighalo has been issued a strong warning by Quique Sanchez Flores, with the experienced manager saying the star striker should not expect a soft go in Manchester United.

The Nigerian star completed a dream sensational EPL return after agreeing to terms with the Old Trafford outfits albeit without no option of purchase at the end of the season.

United were in desperate need of a striker who can fill the void for injured Marcus Rashford and Ighalo emerged on their transfer consideration list.
