Port Harcourt, Rivers State - Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has urged Nigerians to base their 2027 election choices on the capacity of candidates to deliver.
The former Rivers State governor warned that his own party deserves no votes if it cannot perform.

As reported by Channels Television, Amaechi made the remarks on Monday during a panel session at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 2026 Annual General Conference, held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
"ADC provides a different kind of leadership completely. If we can't perform, don't vote for us."
Opposition coalition remains elusive
The comments arrive at a sensitive moment for Nigeria's opposition bloc, which has long struggled to present a unified front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Last year, opposition leaders met in Ibadan, Oyo State, and agreed in principle to back a single presidential candidate for 2027. That agreement has not translated into action, and no joint flagbearer has been named.
Amaechi, who was representing ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar at the conference, acknowledged that pulling off a coalition has proved far harder than anticipated.
"Coalition as it is today is difficult to achieve. If it is possible, I am sure that Vice President Atiku Abubakar would be willing to participate. But the difficulty in it is that everybody has ambition; nobody wants to give up. There are very few politicians who are in love with Nigeria. What the politicians are doing is to just come in and milk the country dry."
Despite those frustrations, he maintained that any meaningful alliance must be anchored in governance results rather than political convenience.
"A coalition should be based on performance," he said.
Amaechi defends his own record
The former minister also pushed back against any suggestion that his tenure in Rivers State lacked substance, pointing to infrastructure projects he said remain visible across the state. He used that argument to reinforce his broader call for voters to scrutinise candidates through the lens of past achievement.
"Assess us by our last performance and choose; not just vote because you are from Ikwerre or Omoku and choose your candidate."
Amaechi said, directly challenging voters to reject ethnic loyalty as a basis for political choice.
