Breaking: Fubara Announces Date, Time to Address Rivers Residents

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has been scheduled to deliver a statewide broadcast on Friday, September 19.

The governor made this known while speaking to journalists at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on his arrival.

According to Channels TV, Governor Fubara said that the broadcast would be done on the same day. The governor returned to the country two days after President Bola Tinubu lifted the suspension on him and ended the emergency rule in Rivers.

In March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers and appointed a sole administrator to see to the affairs of the state, while the governor was suspended. However, the emergency rule was lifted on Wednesday, September 17, and many supporters expected the governor to resume on Thursday, September 18.

Governor Fubara was not in the state until Friday morning, September 19. He returned to the country and landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport, where hundreds of supporters were waiting for him.

Reactions as Fubara returns to the country

The video of his return was shared on social media by Channels TV, and it has started generating reactions from some Nigerians.

"There are no Saints in this Rivers tragedy. Both Wike and Fubara are Villains. Both are responsible for the state of anarchy in Rivers. Both are guilty."

Murtala criticised the supporters:

"Truly amazing, waiting hours for a politician, but can’t fill streets for accountability. When dem remove Fubara like joke, una no fit gather. Now una dey shout welcome. Jobless noise, shameless loyalty."

Wike defends Fubara's absence in Rivers

Legit.ng earlier reported that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has explained that there is no law that compelled Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resume immediately.

Wike made the comment while reacting to the controversies surrounding why the governor did not resume after President Bola Tinubu lifted the suspension on him.

President Tinubu on Wednesday suspended the state of emergency earlier declared in Rivers and ordered the governor to return to power.
