Peter Obi Visits Factional Afenifere Leaders: "I Remain Committed to All-Inclusive Nigeria"

Peter Obi, a 2027 presidential hopeful, has met with Oba Oladipo Olaitan, the factional leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere. The former governor of Anambra state then expressed his commitment to "an all-inclusive, united Nigeria".
Obi, who was the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, noted that Olaitan was also "the leader of ethic Nigerian nationality comprising PANDEF and Middle Belt Forum."

He explained that he visited the factional Afenifere leadership on Tuesday, September 16 and that he appreciated "their courage", adding that the factional group always stands out in the fight for "fearless justice and the unity of our country". He then encouraged the group to remain consistent in its pursuit.
According to Obi, they have a robust discussion on national issues, which centred around "critical areas of education, health and pulling people out of poverty." The ex-governor reiterated his commitment to a united Nigeria.

Israel Eboseiymelu Iria demanded further details of proactive solutions to Nigeria's problem:
"While focusing on education and poverty is important, many Nigerians are wondering what concrete steps will be taken. What were the specific actions or agreements discussed to tackle these issues, especially with different regional groups?"
Smartek asked Obi to show Nigerians his workable plan to fix the country:
"PO keeps meeting with groups like Afenifere, PANDEF & MBF, but after all the photo ops, what changes? Nigerians don’t need another round of rhetoric about unity and poverty. If PO can’t show real solutions beyond slogans, then “A New Nigeria” is just empty branding."

Montero Oluwole accused Obi of trying to divide the Yoruba people:
"Like Zik, u are trying to divide Yorubas by creating a parallel organisation filled with frustrated traitors and anti-federalism elements. U went to pick a few jokers who can't even win a ward election or summon a single councillor, and tagged them 'Afenifere' or is it Ohanifere?"
Akeem Abiodun Oluwa reviewed Obi's administration as a governor:
"What Peter Obi usually writes and what the reality is are always opposite ends of the spectrum. From past experience, during his time as Governor, poverty levels in his state increased, and more people were left behind in abject poverty, despite all the promises. His record of incompetence still speaks publicly to this day. It’s easy to write fine words about education, health, and pulling people out of poverty, but leadership is not about words; it’s about results."

Obi's supporters asked Jonathan to step down
Legit.ng earlier reported that former President Goodluck Jonathan was urged to step down for Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.
The Obidient Movement made the call while reacting to the recent meeting between Obi and Jonathan on Thursday, September 11.
Yunusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the movement, made the call on the former president, while giving reasons Jonathan should step down.
