The Imo state government has reiterated its commitment to ensure that the former member of the State House of Assembly, Ngozi Ogbu, who was earlier abducted, is released.

IPOB members vow to kill abducted ex-lawmaker
It was also reported that the hoodlums who abducted the former assembly member were seen in a video on social media. They said they were member of the Biafran Liberation Army, an armed militant part of the Autopilot IPOB, a faction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by Simon Ekpa, who is now in jail.
The assailants vowed to kill the former lawmakers if the government and villagers did not withdraw security deployed to their hideout, known as White House in Okigwe, within four days. They made the threat on Tuesday, September 9.
Speaking on the development, Declan Emelumba, the Imo state commissioner for information, explained that the government is doing everything in the state to secure the release of Ogbu safely.
Premium Times reported that the government also condemned the “brazen and lawless act", which paved the way for the gunmen to abduct the former lawmaker. The commissioner further disclosed that the government and the security agencies have activated all mechanisms to ensure that Ogbu is promptly and safely released.
Imo government warns politicians
He then warned politicians to stop making "political capital" from the ordeal of the former lawmaker, adding that such actions or comments trivialised his situation and further put his life in danger.
According to the commissioner, the politicisation of the situation, which involved the life of Ogbu, who he described as a "husband, father, and fellow citizen", is "deeply unconscionable.”
The commissioner then re-emphasised the position of the government that it was committed to not relenting in protecting lives and property in the state.
Imo is one of the five southeast states which has been confronted with the challenges of insecurity. The IPOB has been fingered as the perpetrator of insecurity in the region and has been accused of being responsible for several attacks.
