Breaking: Drama as NNPP Expels Top Lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin, as Reason, Other Details Emerge
- Kano NNPP expelled Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa over alleged anti-party activities and unpaid party dues
- Party chairman Hashim Dungurawa said Jibrin’s political success came only through Kwankwasiyya and NNPP, not personal strength
- The party vowed to sue Jibrin to recover unpaid dues and downplayed the impact of his possible return to the APC
The Kano state chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency.
The political party accused him of anti-party activities and failure to fulfil his financial obligations to the party.

Chairman of the NNPP in Kano, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, disclosed the decision while briefing journalists in Kano on Saturday, September 6.
He said the expulsion followed Jibrin’s repeated media attacks on the party and its leadership, Daily Trust reported.
“Instead of dialogue, he went further to work against our interest, openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa said.
NNPP's expulsion precedes lawmaker's plan to exit
The development comes barely 24 hours after Jibrin himself hinted at a possible defection, saying it would not be surprising if he left the party.
He added that he was “old enough to take a stand independently” and would decide what was best for him politically.

Dungurawa dismissed the lawmaker as a “weak politician” whose political fortune relied on the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” he said.
NNPP threatens legal action over unpaid dues
The party chairman also accused Jibrin of failing to pay his mandatory party dues, insisting that the NNPP would take legal action to recover the funds, Vanguard reported.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” Dungurawa explained.
NNPP downplays impact of possible defection
On speculation that Jibrin might return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa insisted such a move would not affect the NNPP’s political weight.
“Politics is about groups and coalitions, and Kwankwasiyya remains solidly behind its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” he said.
Kwankwaso speaks on defection claims
Earlier, Legit,.ng reported that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), reacted to his defection rumour from the party, saying that he was not in a hurry, nor were his party leaders and supporters in a hurry.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano, made the comment while speaking at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NNPP in Kano on Thursday, August 28, stating that he was comfortable with the party at the moment and that he has something to offer.
