Wike Breaks Silence on Contesting Against Tinubu in 2027, “I Have Integrity”

2027: Wike speaks on contesting against Tinubu

The former governor of Rivers state stated this on Monday, September 1, during his monthly media chat in Abuja with selected journalists, in Abuja.

As reported by The Punch, Wike said that despite the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoning its ticket to the South, he would not run for president while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed him into office, is still in power.

“I will not run. I have integrity, I have character. There is no way my appointer is there, and we are saying he should run, and then I turn around and say I should run,” he said.

Buttressing his point, Wike stressed that his decision was rooted in loyalty and principle, not political expediency.

My love for PDP keeps party strong - Wike

Speaking further, The former Rivers state governor asserted that the PDP would have ceased to exist if not for his love for the party.

In a twist, Wike said he doesn’t need to be a governor before causing problems that may likely affect the PDP, adding that no opposition party can survive when there is an internal crisis.

He said:

“I have said if we don’t love PDP, by now you won’t be hearing that name. I don’t need to be a governor for me to do what I want to do.”

PDP 2027 ticket: Wike speaks on candidate

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Nyesom Wike disclosed who he will support in 2027.

Wike explained that he would support a candidate who would make Nigeria grow and protect the interests of the country.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike noted that his choice is aimed at preventing Nigeria from going backwards.

Damagum confirmed as PDP national chairman

In another development, Legit.ng reported that the leadership of the PDP confirmed Ambassador Umar Damagum as the party’s substantive national chairman.

The decision was taken at the ongoing 102nd national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja on Monday, August 25.

The national legal adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, conducted the swearing ceremony, ahead of the national elective convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo state.
