The Nation also noted the development amid jubilation in the ADC coalition platform.
Shelle lamented that the party has been weakened across the country due to internal crisis and alleged insincerity among its leaders.
Shelle said:
“I strongly believe PDP is already decimated. The leadership squabbles and insincerity on the part of the handlers of the party have brought us to this stage.”
He added:
“A lot still has to be done to be able to bring everybody together. But the earlier, the better.PDP is decimated from state to state. I don’t know how PDP can go it alone and win any election come 2027.”
Aregbesola welcomes new ADC members
Welcoming Shelle, and others, ADC national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, warned that any government that fails to make the welfare and well-being of the masses its governance basis would lose relevance.
A delighted Aregbesola said:
“We are not a party owned or financed by one individual, but a collective of patriotic citizens coming together as equals to salvage a nation fast sliding into a precipice. The people are the centre of politics and the government.
“Any government, whether democratic, military, authoritarian, monarchical, or by whatever definition, that does not make its welfare and well-being the basis of governance, will soon lose relevance and die.
“There is a limit to which the people can be squeezed and pushed before something eventually gives.
“This is why our mission is urgent and our intervention has become absolutely necessary. We must act now to save the nation."
Furthermore, Aregbesola told the defectors that the task was to rescue the country and build a new Nigeria that the yet unborn would be proud to inherit.
The ex-interior minister added:
"I am happy that some of us have emerged from the ashes of the ruins of APC and PDP to chart a new and different coarse for the nation. It is a long journey, however, we have taken the first step in the right direction.
"As we can see, APC is demonstrating the Samson Complex by trying to pull down the nation on its head as its last act of political savagery.
"Nigeria is bleeding and the people are groaning. But the APC government is feasting.
"The question on everyone’s lips is whether Nigeria will survive the four years of this administration."
