EFCC: ADC speaks on Tambuwal's detention
Abdullahi alleged that the sudden detention of Aminu Tambuwal, the former Sokoto governor and the "urgent" request by the EFCC on information about the seven-month tenure of Emeka Ihedioha, the former governor of Imo State, were politically motivated.
The spokesperson of the ADC also alleged that the EFCC was making a move to investigate the party's interim national chairman over his time as the Senate president.
His statement reads in part:
“ADC, like all Nigerians, questions the curious timing, selective targets, and political motivations that now seem to define the EFCC’s actions.”
Why EFCC detained Tambuwal
On Monday, August 11, report emerged that Tambuwa was detained in the custody of the EFCC over allegations of fraudulent cash withdrawals of a total of N189 billion during his time as governor.
Sources within the anti-graft agency disclosed that the action of the former government was against the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Tambuwal, currently serving in the 10th National Assembly as a senator representing Sokoto South, arrived at the headquarters of the EFCC in Abuja on Monday at about 11:30 am, where he was being questioned by the EFCC's interrogation team.
