2027 Election: Did Afenifere Endorse ADC Coalition? Yoruba Group Breaks Silence

Akure, Ondo state - Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, on Tuesday, August 12, denied endorsing the African Democratic Party (ADC) for the 2027 election.
Legit.ng recalls that in July, opposition leaders formally adopted the ADC as their platform for the 2027 general election.

Top PDP and Labour Party (LP) chieftains, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state; Ireti Kingibe, a serving federal lawmaker; and Morris Monye; among others, have joined the coalition.

Recently, some reports said an Afenifere group visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his private residence in Abeokuta, Ogun state, and subsequently endorsed the ADC coalition.
But a statement by the national spokesperson of the organisation, Jare Ajayi, Afenifere declared that it did not send any delegation to Obasanjo.
It's statement partly reads:
“Talking about coalition or no-coalition is a distraction."
2027: Mustapha denies joining ADC coalition
In the same vein, Boss Mustapha, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), dissociated himself from any political alliance with opposition parties.
Adamawa-born Mustapha declared his continued loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to a circulating report linking him to the ADC opposition coalition, Mustapha described the claim as “fake news” and urged Nigerians to disregard it.

The former appointee of late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, said in a statement:
“I am not in any opposition alliance, and I am not in any discussion with those who are involved."
The former SGF, who served from 2017 to 2023 under late former President Muhammadu Buhari, recalled his role as deputy national chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the legacy parties that merged to form the APC in 2013.
He said:
“As the deputy national chairman of the ACN, the largest political party with six governors at the time of the merger and the formation of the All Progressives Congress, I can rightly claim that I am one of the founding fathers of the governing party."

Jonathan reportedly discussing with ADC
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a chieftain of the ADC said the party had been holding discreet talks with former President Goodluck Jonathan over a possible presidential run in the 2027 election.
