Anambra APC Chapter Suspends State Chairman for ‘Disrespecting Buhari’

  • It seems all is not well in the Anambra state APC especially after the party lost the just-concluded governorship election
  • Earlier this month, the party announced that its publicity secretary, Okelo Madukaife has been suspended
  • Recently, the party announced that its state chairman, Basil Ejidike has also been suspended for indiscipline

Awka - Anambra state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, November 25 announced the suspension of its chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike.

The Nation newspaper reports that the Anambra APC cited insubordination and disrespect to the office of President Muhammadu Buhari as reasons for the suspension.

The caretaker chairman of the APC in Anambra, Okonkwo Okom, told reporters in Awka, the state capital, that the decision was part of the resolution of the state congress of leaders and stakeholders to reposition our the party.

He said details of the reasons for their actions were contained in a concise petition submitted to the party’s national leadership, for justice to be done.

But Ejidike told Vanguard newspaper in an interview that Okom and his group have no capacity to suspend him.

His words:

“They are not members our party. They are renegades who left the party after the primaries. They can’t suspend me As I’m talking to you, I am at the national secretariat of our party in Abuja. Their claim is laughable.”

Gale of suspensions in Anambra APC

Recall that Anambra APC sacked its publicity secretary, Okelo Madukaife for congratulating Anambra governor-elect, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo recently.

Interestingly, Ejidike announced the sack of Madukaife at a press conference in Awka, the Anambra state capital on Sunday, November 14.

He said Madukaife who was suspended in June this year had continued to parade himself as the public secretary to the extent that he appeared on national television recently to congratulate the Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Meanwhile, Anambra governor-elect, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has written his name in gold in the history books of Nigeria as he joins a list of governors in the current political dispensation with a Ph.D.

The other governors with a Ph.D. are Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, and Professor Benedict Ayade of Cross River state.

Others are Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state and his Borno state counterpart, Professor Babagana Zulum.
