According to the lady's story shared by Adefemi Taiwo Damilola on Facebook, her would-have-been mother-in-law was offended by her insistence not to address her niece as her aunty.
Her fiancé's mum thought it was rude of her not to accord the niece the traditional respect by calling her aunty, and when a similar issue came up with another teenage niece, she was told to forget about the marriage if she continued with her disregard for the Yoruba culture.
The lady maintained her stance, even before her husband-to-be. He, however, also urged her to listen to his mum and address the teens as aunties.
Following her refusal to bend to their wishes, the lady said she was asked to leave the house, and that the marriage was cancelled. She added that her fiancé blocked her on social media as well. Her story in part read:
"My wedding was supposed to held today. But was cancelled because of my mother in-law three weeks ago.
"What was my offense? I know you all would want to know .It's because I called my husband's niece (my husband's sister's daughter) by her name .She is 11 years old .While I'm 29 years .. She is just preparing for her Common entrance while I'm a master degree holder.
"I called my husband's sister's daughter to please come and help me to zip down my cloth while i bent down to make it easier for her then my mother in-law came and said i was rude .I was shocked and i asked in total respect what I did.
