Comfort Emmanson’s lawyer speaks on Ibom Air issue
A statement by the airline revealed that the drama started when Comfort refused to turn off her phone.
Shortly after the news went viral, it was reported that Comfort was remanded in Kirikiri prison after being charged in court.
However, she was released on Wednesday, and Comfort broke her silence since the incident.
Speaking with Channels Television on Thursday, Emmanson’s lawyer, Adefunke, shared her client’s side of the story.
Adefunke said:
“The airport authorities released videos that will exclude them from liability. They released videos of what they want us to believe. That was not exactly what happened right inside the aircraft.”
Sharing what Comfort told her, the lawyer said:
“What exactly happened, like our client made us verily believe, was that she was told to switch off her phone. She said that at the point of boarding, her phone was already on airplane mode, and then the aggressor came - the air hostess - and was speaking to her rudely.
"‘I said you should off your phone now and you have to do it now’. Then she was like, ‘My phone was already on airplane mode before I boarded the plane.’ I guess that didn’t go well with the air hostess. She was like, ‘I don't even have time for your nonsense.’
“She was practically speaking to Comfort in the most rudest manner. You don’t speak to a customer that way. And of course, Comfort being human, was angry and kept narrating the incident to the next passenger.”

Adefunke stated that when it was time to disembark from the plane, the passengers were leaving according to their role, and when it was Comfort’s time to leave, the air hostess blocked her.
The lawyer added:
“She was pushed aside for other passengers to pass. Other passengers were wondering why she was still in the aircraft. The woman blocked her way. She vehemently refused Comfort from disembarking from the flight. That was what escalated the matter.”
Adefunke said Comfort was treated in the most degrading manner and condemned the conduct of the air hostess.
“You don’t provoke a passenger to act in such a way, and at the end of the way, you made it look as if she was the aggressor. It was shown in the video that the air hostess willfully ripped off her blouse.”

In the video shared on her TikTok page, the lady was seen boarding an Air Ibom flight, displaying her passport, cash, and the interior of the plane during her flight to Ghana.
