The British Oasis Academy in Abuja has appointed William Stephen Pope as its new Principal, the school confirmed. Pope, a South African national of Dutch, Irish and Scottish descent, has already resumed in the role.
Pope brings more than 45 years of experience in secondary education across South Africa and Nigeria. His career has taken him through multiple roles, including classroom teaching, curriculum development and school administration, giving him broad exposure to the full range of secondary education functions, from student and teacher management to staff welfare, marketing and research.

Pope's Career in Nigeria
Within Nigeria, Pope has held senior positions at several well-known schools in Abeokuta, Lagos and Abuja. His past employers include Grange Schools, Nobelhouse and KIA Lakeside Academy, all of which are regarded as prominent institutions in their respective cities.
The British Oasis Academy is a coeducational British-style boarding school that also accommodates day students. Now 12 years old, the Abuja-based institution offers laboratories, classrooms, hostels, medical facilities, and sporting and recreational amenities. The school operates round-the-clock security for both students and staff.
New Direction for the Academy
Pope's appointment comes with a clear mandate to reorganise and reposition the academy. The school's new direction places emphasis on academic excellence, discipline, sports development, civic responsibility and leadership training.
He will also oversee the launch of early years programmes, covering nursery and primary school sections, which are scheduled to begin in September. Admissions for the 2026/27 academic session are currently open.
