To mark World Sight Day and International White Cane & Safety Day, Dufil Prima Foods partnered with the Resource Centre for the Blind to host a special outreach programme on Saturday, October 18, in Festac, Lagos. This initiative was anchored on this year’s global theme: “Eye Care Everywhere”, reinforcing the urgent need for inclusive healthcare and societal support.
A Day of Sight, Support, and Solidarity
The event was not only about raising awareness, it provided real, tangible support for visually impaired individuals and members of the surrounding community. Attendees benefited from a range of free health services, including:

In line with promoting economic empowerment, visually impaired members of the Resource Centre showcased and sold handmade crafts, from tie-dye shirts and liquid soaps to key holders and accessories, demonstrating their capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit.

One of the most powerful moments of the event was the presentation of white canes by Mr. Temitope Ashiwaju, Group Corporate Communications and Events Manager at Dufil Prima Foods. The donation wasn’t merely symbolic; it was a declaration of dignity, independence, and equity.
“The white cane we provide is not just a cane; it represents their eyes. Whenever you see someone holding it, please assist them,” Mr Ashiwaju said, while commending the Resource Centre for the Blind for its ongoing advocacy and support.

Mrs Temitayo Ayinla, Director of the Resource Centre for the Blind, also spoke at the event, urging Nigerians to prioritise eye health and foster a culture of inclusion. “We need to care for our eyes just as we care for the rest of our bodies. It is an investment in ourselves and our families. Let us include the blind in everything we do and embrace them with love and compassion.”
