The group noted that Shettima’s speech covered issues from global debt and climate change to peace, security and digital innovation. It also addressed the plight of Palestinians and the need for reform of the UN Security Council.
“When he spoke about billions wasted on wars while little is invested in peace, he echoed the frustrations of the developing world,” Adebodun said.
Shettima links domestic realities to global issues - NCRT
According to the coalition, Shettima wove Nigeria’s domestic realities into the global debate, citing floods in Maiduguri, terrorism, insurgency and unsustainable debt as reminders of interconnected challenges.
“There is no daylight between them,” Adebodun said of the president and vice president.
“Shettima did not merely read a text; he embodied the Renewed Hope philosophy and presented Nigeria’s case with passion and precision.”
Coalition calls for policy reforms
The coalition added that key soundbites from the address will shape policy discussions for months, particularly Nigeria’s calls for reform of the international financial system, asset recovery, inclusive tax regimes and climate financing for developing countries.
“Vice President Shettima reminded the world that Nigeria is not a passive observer but an active shaper of global conversations,” the statement said.
NCRT urged Nigerians at home to take inspiration from Shettima’s performance, describing it as “loyalty that is not blind, but intelligent, loyal to the president and to the people simultaneously.”
Reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration, the group pledged to continue mobilising citizens towards national renewal and transformation.
“At UNGA 80, Vice President Shettima stood tall for Nigeria,” the NCRT reiterated.
“That moment belongs not just to him or the president but to every Nigerian who believes in the possibility of a great nation.”
