Tragedy as Man Kills Youth Leader with Machete During Fight

Akwa Ibom state - 37-year-old Joseph Eren has been arrested for allegedly killing his neighbour with machete during a violent altercation in the Ibesikpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.

The state Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, said the tragic incident occurred during a heated argument with his neighbor, Ekopimo Moses, who is a youth leader on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at about 6 pm.

As reported by the Punch, Timfon disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Timfon said the incident degenerated into a physical fight during which both of them resorted to using machetes.

The police spokesperson said Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment, where he later passed on.

Timfon said the police taook action after the village head reported the case to the station.

“The village head stated that the community youth president, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, a 34-year-old male, had a misunderstanding with Joseph Okon Eren, a 37-year-old male who resides in the village but is originally from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA.
”The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which both men used machetes. Ekopimo Effiong Moses sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Hospital for urgent medical treatment. He was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
”The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. A machete, believed to be the weapon used in the incident, has been recovered. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.”

Hoodlum kill Kano governor's aide with machete

Recall that Kano governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's senior special reporter in the Ministry of History and Culture, Sadiq Gentle, was murdered.

The governor's aide was reportedly attacked by some hoodlums with machetes and died at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital after sustaining injuries.

Governor Yusuf condemned the incident and ordered the security agencies to step in and fish out the perpetrators.

Man hacks 71-Year-old mother with machete

In a similar story, Legit.ng reported that a man identified as Alexander Peter was arrested by the police for allegedly killing his 71-year-old mother, Mrs. Atiny Peter.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, said the suspect hacked his mother to death with a machete.

According to CP Azare, the tragic incident occurred in Ikot Inyang village, located in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state.
