Breaking: Rivers Sole Administrator Announces Move to Return Power To Fubara as Details Emerge

Port Harcourt, Rivers state - The Rivers state government has formally announced the commencement of its transition from emergency rule to democratic governance.

Recall that Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers state and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

The decision, broadcast this evening, marks a significant intervention in the ongoing political turmoil that has gripped the oil-rich state, Vanguard reported.

The announcement follows months of escalating tensions between Governor Fubara and key political figures, including former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement issued on Saturday, September 13, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, revealed that the process would begin with an interdenominational church thanksgiving service.

The service is scheduled to hold on Sunday, September 14, at the Ecumenical Centre, Abonima Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, at 10 a.m. Guests have been asked to be seated by 9:30 a.m.

Stakeholders invited to thanksgiving service

Prof. Worika said the event would bring together key stakeholders across the state, including permanent secretaries, local government chairmen, heads of state security agencies, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and members of governing boards.

“The Government of Rivers State is pleased to invite the Permanent Secretaries, Local Government Chairmen, Heads of State Security and Para-Military Agencies, Traditional Rulers, Chairmen and members of Boards and Governing Councils, Captains of industries, Government Officials and invited guests to the Inter-Denominational Church Thanksgiving Service, as part of transition activities to usher in Democratic Governance in Rivers State,” the SSG stated.

The Rivers state Sole Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), will serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the thanksgiving service, Daily Trust reported.

The announcement comes as part of efforts to restore full democratic authority in the state, paving the way for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resume full control of governance after months under emergency rule.

Previously, Legit.ng Anyakweh Miracle Amadi, Esq, said the suspended Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, should get back to work immediate he returns to office. Legit.ng report that Fubara is expected to return to office in September 18 after the expiration of the six-months state of emergency declaration in the oil rich state.

Amadi said the state of emergency was declared for some needed change including a fresh LG election in compliance with the Supreme Court's judgement.
