Security concerns in Abuja
Legit.ng reports that once considered Nigeria’s safest city, Abuja is now battling a surge of criminal elements who exploit gaps in law enforcement and surveillance.
Chidi Omeje, security expert, expressed concerns, describing Abuja as one of the scariest cities in the world, plagued by kidnappers, ‘one-chance’ robbers, and criminal gangs. He noted an alarming increase in security breaches, particularly in outlying areas such as Bwari, Kubwa, Lugbe, Nyanya, Kuje, and Appleside, where nightlife is disappearing and fear is becoming the norm.

Omeje told Business Day:
“Abuja is supposed to be much more fortified, but that is not the case. Security infractions have become commonplace. People no longer go out like they used to. There’s a growing sense of fear.”
Meanwhile, the house of representatives already moved to address the escalating security crisis in Abuja. National assembly members adopted a motion of urgent public importance, presented by Haruna Dabo, the lawmaker representing Toro federal constituency of Bauchi state.
Dabo’s motion highlighted the rise in 'one chance' robberies (criminal acts in which victims are lured into unregistered taxis), only to be robbed or kidnapped. He called on the federal government to urgently address the security situation and protect residents from further harm.
