FCT, Abuja - President Bola Tinubu has directed the armed forces to review their security operations.
The President said this should happen with immediate effect.

He added that this includes the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment to ensure the elimination of terrorist groups across Nigeria.
Legit.ng reports that the directive came in response to the latest attack by Boko Haram insurgents, which claimed several lives in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of Borno state.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a statement issued by his spokesman Stanley Nkwocha, extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State following the deadly attack.
He said:
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”
Governor Zulum visits community after attack
Borno state governor Babagana Umara Zulum had on Saturday, September 6, paid a condolence visit to Darajamal community, where both civilians and soldiers were killed during Friday night’s attack.
Zulum met with families of the victims, assuring them of the state government’s support while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insurgency in the state.
FG assures stronger response
Vice President Shettima said the federal government was confident in the armed forces’ ability to surmount the security challenges, noting that President Tinubu had already approved the acquisition of additional drones and instructed security agencies to intensify operations.
He also highlighted ongoing discussions on the establishment of state police, emphasising President Tinubu’s stance that some security challenges required localised forces that understood the terrain, culture, and grassroots networks.

Shettima offered prayers for the families affected and assured them of the federal government’s continued support.
“The sacrifices of the fallen will not be forgotten. We remain committed to restoring peace and stability in Borno and across Nigeria,” he said.
Data show Nigeria's military performance in August
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Defence Headquarters had disclosed that the military killed several terrorists across the country in the month of August. According to the forces, the armed forces arrested 85 suspects and rescued 66 kidnap victims in total.
Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, the director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the development while addressing journalists at the defence headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 4.
According to the military, the Operation Hadin Kai troops in the North East eliminated hundreds of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, as 15 suspects, including a drug peddler, 13 collaborators and a gunrunner, were arrested, while eight kidnapped victims were rescued.
