The initiative offers participants the chance to qualify as certified Data Protection Officers, a role in growing demand as both private and public institutions face stricter compliance requirements.
Organisers say beneficiaries will also be linked to internship opportunities and potential job placements once they complete the certification process.
Applications for the pilot phase are currently open through the official registration portal, with a deadline of September 5, 2025.
The training is part of broader government efforts to prepare Nigerian youths for digital economy jobs while addressing rising concerns about cyber risks and data breaches.
Officials believe the programme will help young people gain relevant skills that improve employability and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to manage sensitive information in a rapidly evolving tech landscape.
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development described YDPAT as a key step in bridging the gap between education and industry needs in the digital sector.

Youths invited to apply for YouthCred loans
The online platform is now live and allows eligible young Nigerians to apply for various credit products tailored to their financial needs and growth plans.
According to the organizers, YouthCred aimed to create a shift in how young citizens accessed and managed their credit. It features three main loan categories:
- Corper Credit: A short-term credit scheme for NYSC members.
- YouthCred Card: A flexible credit facility for young professionals, repayable over 12 months.
- Youth Entrepreneurs Credit: A business support credit line for young entrepreneurs to start or scale up ventures.
"Today, CREDICORP and NYSC signed a landmark partnership for YouthCred, credit designed to unlock dignity, opportunity, and a future without limits," the agency posted on X (formerly Twitter).
