El-Rufai Under Fire as He Gets 72-Hour Deadline to Prove Security Allegations Against NSA
- The NCSCN condemned El-Rufai’s allegations against the National Security Adviser, calling them unverified, vindictive, and damaging to public trust
- The council urged El-Rufai to provide evidence within 72 hours or issue a public apology, warning of being publicly blacklisted if he fails
- NCSCN reiterated support for combining Non-Kinetic strategies with military measures and called for stronger civil society collaboration in national security efforts
The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has strongly criticised former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for alleging that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is supplying bandits with money and food under a “Non-Kinetic” security strategy.
The council described the claims as “unguarded, highly volatile and vindictive,” stressing that they could erode public trust and undermine recent security gains.

Support for non-kinetic strategies
At a press briefing, NCSCN Executive Director Amb. Blessing A. Akinlosotu reaffirmed the council’s support for combining Non-Kinetic measures with traditional military approaches to combat insecurity. She emphasised that “the life of a single Nigerian is priceless” and urged continued strategic dialogue to rescue victims of terrorism and kidnappings.
El-Rufai urged to provide evidence
The council demanded that El-Rufai substantiate his allegations within 72 hours or issue a public apology.
“Failure to provide evidence will result in him being publicly blacklisted by NCSCN,” Akinlosotu warned.
Call for stronger civil society collaboration
NCSCN also urged the Office of the National Security Adviser to collaborate with civil society to disseminate vital security information.
Additionally, the council recommended creating a dedicated Non-Kinetic Civil Space Engagement Unit within the NSA’s office, staffed by seasoned civil society activists.
Balancing kinetic and non-kinetic measures
The council stressed that total reliance on military force without dialogue is counterproductive, urging Nigeria to institutionalise a combined approach to fighting insecurity, as seen in other nations worldwide.
Political undertones questioned
Akinlosotu suggested El-Rufai’s claims may be politically motivated, noting his past association with insecurity in Kaduna State and speculating that his statements could be aimed at regaining political relevance.
