During the attack, a vigilante member, Abdullahi Muhammad, 25, was shot dead while attempting to confront the assailants.
A family source, who requested anonymity, told Daily Trust that the kidnappers later contacted the wife’s uncle, Malam Ibrahim, using Anas’ mobile phone.
“They demanded ₦600 million, but we told them there is no way the family can raise such an amount,” the source said.
Governor Radda cuts short medical leave
Katsina state Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, has cut short his medical leave following renewed bandit attacks across the state.
On Wednesday, August 27, the governor visited Gidan Mantau community in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where dozens of worshippers were killed in a mosque attack on 19 August.
“What I saw was heartbreaking, orphans, burnt houses, and families in distress,” Radda said during the visit.
“We asked them what they need, and I assured them government will address those challenges one by one."
Plans to strengthen community defence
The governor announced plans to deploy a military battalion to Malumfashi and directed local authorities to work with traditional rulers in mobilising and training youths for community defence.
“All the houses destroyed by these criminals will be renovated by the state government,” Radda assured. “Security is about saving human lives, not politics. Whoever stands in the way of peace, we will confront them.”
Relief and development pledges
Governor Radda also pledged ₦500,000 in immediate relief to each affected household alongside long-term development projects, including a modern school, hospital, mosque renovation, and improved access roads.
He further urged unity, stating:
“We do not have a monopoly of knowledge. If you have superior ideas, bring them. If they work, we will adopt them. With the support of our people, In Sha Allah, we will overcome.”
