Kaduna state - A tragic accident in the Dan Magaji area of Zaria, Kaduna state, has claimed several lives after a fuel-laden tanker exploded on Monday morning, August 11.
The incident happened at about 8:30am near Rochas Foundation School, along the Kaduna, Kano expressway bypass from Kwangila to Dan Magaji.

Kaduna: Collision sparked multiple explosions
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the crash involved two tankers and two Golf cars carrying passengers.
Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision triggered five loud explosions, sending huge flames and thick black smoke into the sky, The Cable reported.
“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but suffered severe burns,” a witness recounted.
Rescue efforts underway
Emergency responders, security agencies, and fire service personnel quickly moved to the scene.

The area was cordoned off, and motorists and pedestrians were advised to avoid the route as rescue and recovery operations continued.
As of press time, the exact number of casualties had not been confirmed, but officials said investigations were ongoing, Nation reported.
“This is a very sad day for our community. The fire was so intense that nothing could be done immediately to save those trapped,” another local resident said.
105 died in fuel tanker explosion
Recently, a devastating petrol tanker explosion occurred in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, resulting in the loss of at least 105 lives. The tragedy struck at 11:30 pm on Tuesday night near Khadija University.
According to Shiisu Adam, the Jigawa State Police Command's public relations officer, the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle while travelling from Kano.
Many people attempted to scoop fuel from the tanker, unaware of the impending danger. This ultimately led to a massive explosion that claimed numerous lives. The victims are mostly burnt beyond recognition, and they will be given a mass burial.
In addition to the fatalities, 55 people sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Ringim General Hospital. Due to the hospital's limited capacity, some injured persons have been transferred to Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu.
5 dead in multiple crashes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that at least five people were killed while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries in multiple road crashes that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
The Public Education Officer of the Ogun state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Okpe disclosed that the accident involved a Mazda bus and a truck along the Car Park C section of the expressway.
According to her, the accident occurred when the truck, due to speeding and brake failure, rammed into the bus while it was attempting a turn.
