ValueJet Vs KWAM 1: ADC Breaks Silence, Makes Bold Demand from FG, "Treat Him Like Terrorist"

  • ADC condemned KWAM 1’s alleged airport conduct, labelling it “reckless” and “terroristic,” and urging the Federal Government to apply terrorism laws
  • Party praised Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo for calling the incident a “hostage situation” but warns against political interference in handling the case
  • ADC warned of damage to Nigeria’s aviation image, alleging political favouritism due to KWAM 1’s ties to the APC and demanding equal treatment under the law

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticised Fuji music legend, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, over his alleged behaviour at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The Atiku-led coalition further described it as “reckless” and “terroristic.”

The Atiku-led ADC urges the federal government to take decisive action against KWAM 1, the popular fuji artist who clashes with ValueJet airline in Abuja.

The party also called on the federal government to apply Nigeria’s terrorism laws to the incident, insisting that the singer must face the full weight of the law.

ADC hails Keyamo's action

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, August 7, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi commended Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo for describing the matter as a “hostage situation,” but expressed concern about possible political interference.

“On this KWAM 1 matter, I commend my brother, the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, for describing the action as a ‘hostage situation.’ A hostage situation is an act of terrorism,” Abdullahi said.

He then challenged authorities, asking, “What are the laws against terrorist actions in Nigeria? Will these laws be applied in this case?”

Details of the alleged incident

The August 5 incident reportedly involved KWAM 1 refusing to follow flight safety protocols, attempting to board with a prohibited flask, spilling its contents on security personnel, and briefly preventing the aircraft from moving. The ADC claims these actions put passengers’ safety at risk.

Allegations of political favouritism

The ADC suggested that the singer’s alleged closeness to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could affect how the matter is handled.

“Nigerians know that KWAM 1 is the official musician of the APC. They will therefore wait to see if this fact alone would influence how this matter is handled. If it were an ordinary citizen, it is doubtful if the individual would not be arrested on the spot and processed for prosecution,” Abdullahi argued.

The party warned that the case could damage Nigeria’s reputation with foreign travellers.

“Even if all our airports are plated in gold, if people coming into our country feel that anybody could block the path of an aircraft and endanger their lives, it would amount to nothing,” Abdullahi said.

He added,

“Pray, if KWAM 1 had done this in Europe or America, what do you think would have happened to him by now? What he did was the ultimate in reckless behaviour. It is an act of terrorism and it should be treated as such.”

ADC seeks equal treatment under the law

The ADC concluded by warning against any attempt to shield the artiste because of his fame or political ties.

“You can’t give him a mere slap on the wrist for this just because he sings for the President,” Abdullahi stated.
