Tragedy as Man Exhumes Grandmother’s Corpse for Money Rituals

Niger state - 31-year-old Ahmadu Jiya has been arrested by the police for allegedly exhuming the corpse of his 90-year-old maternal grandmother and removing her skull for money rituals in Niger state.

It was gathered that Jiya’s grandmother died over two years ago at the age of 90.

Police operatives arrested Jiya at a hotel in Bida, the headquarters of the Bida Local Government Area.

The state Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was arrested alongside four accomplices: Mohammed Ndache (70) of Nagya, Edati; Abubakar Mohammed (21) of Duma via Lavun; Mallam Ali Mohammed (20) of Tsyaduka via Lemu, Gbako Local Government Area; and Mohammed Adamu (25) of Edati.

As reported by Daily Trust, Abiodun, in a statement, said the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence.

“On July 19, 2025, acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested five suspects in a hotel in Bida with a human skull in their possession, believed to be for ritual purposes.”

The Police spokesperson said that during interrogation, Ahmadu Jiya confessed that he exhumed the remains of his grandmother in a desperate bid to raise money to settle a debt of over N2 million.

“He said a herbalist, Mohammed Ndache, had instructed him to bring a human head, dead or alive, for a money ritual. After retrieving the skull, he and a friend, Mohammed Adamu, presented it to the herbalist. But upon hearing the conditions of the ritual, Jiya said he could not comply and returned home with the skull, hiding it in his house.”

“Initially, Jiya, who had exhumed the skull, was accompanied by his friend Mohammed Adamu to deliver the skull to the herbalist, but Adamu backed out.
“He later returned with Abubakar Mohammed, and together they bought the skull from Jiya for ₦100,000, and they agreed to pay ₦40,000 upfront.”

Man arrested while transporting human organs

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of money ritualist.

Samson Oghenebreme was arrested while transporting human organs to a native doctor for use in money-making rituals.

The Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was arrested while transporting the organs from Edo State.

Many children are kidnapped for money ritual.

Meanwhile, legit.ng reported that a suspect, who specialised in kidnapping children, was arrested by police operatives in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The suspected kidnapper confessed that he couldn’t recall how many children his gang had abducted for money ritual.
