Jonathan at 64: Buhari Hails Ex-President in Special Birthday Message, Lists Political Seats He Has Occupied

Aso Rock, Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari has felicitated with his immediate predecessor, former President Goodluck Jonathan, on his 64th birthday anniversary which comes on Wednesday, November 17.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, November 16, by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, Buhari congratulated Jonathan for serving the country and working for the peace and advancement of democracy in Africa.

He said Jonathan had continued to expand the boundaries of leadership by teaching many in the country the power of focus, consistency and diligence, having served as:

  1. Deputy Governor
  2. Governor
  3. Vice President
  4. President
  5. African Union Envoy
  6. Current Chairman of the International Summit Council for Peace Africa (ISCP-Africa)

ISCP-Africa is an association of incumbent and former heads of state and their deputies, established in 2019 by the Universal Peace Federation, an organization in general consultative status with the United Nations (UN).

President Buhari said Jonathan’s profile should remind those in position and all aspiring leaders that serving the country and humanity required sacrifice, and placing the interest of others above personal gains.

Sending greetings to his predecessor and his family, the president prayed that the Almighty God would continue to sustain them in good health and all round well being.

In a previous report, former President Jonathan stated that his relationship with President Buhari is cordial despite party affiliation and political difference.

Jonathan made this known shortly after meeting Buhari behind the closed-door at the presidential villa, Abuja. One of the purposes of the meeting was connected with the honour Buhari had bestowed on him.

President Buhari had in July 2020 approved the naming of the railway complex in Agbor, the operational hub of Itakpe-Warri rail line, after Jonathan.
