A senior aide to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pushed back hard against what he described as a sustained pattern of mocking sick Nigerians over their political choices, following renewed attacks on ailing Nollywood veteran Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, over his support for the All Progressives Congress.
The aide drew a sharp contrast by pointing to the late actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, who was a vocal supporter of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general election. Despite his loyalty, Mr Ibu suffered cardiopulmonary failure in 2024 that no hospital in Anambra or the wider South East could adequately treat.

He was eventually transported to Lagos, where he received care at Evercare Hospital, a privately owned facility that exists as part of the Lagos Government's Medical Tourism Master Plan, a service that Obi, as a former governor of Anambra State, never developed for the people who voted for him overwhelmingly.
The aide questioned whether it was ever appropriate to ridicule Mr Ibu for the political choices he freely made, before extending that logic to Ogogo's situation.
Kidney patients, fake drugs, and selective outrage

The statement also referenced a troubling situation in Enugu, where a significant number of residents in one community are reportedly suffering from chronic kidney disease. The aide noted that Peter Obi had visited those patients, even as he had previously been seen publicly intervening in law enforcement responses against suspected fake drug merchants, traders whose products have been linked to the rise of kidney-related illnesses in the region. Most of those patients, the aide pointed out, had also voted for Obi.
He asked pointedly whether anyone would consider it fair to mock their medical condition solely because of the candidate they supported.
Warning to Obi supporters over mockery posts
Turning directly to Ogogo's case, the aide described the veteran actor as "the latest victim" of politically motivated mockery by a group he tied to Peter Obi's support base. He warned that continued attacks on sick citizens who exercised their constitutional right to political expression would not go unanswered.
"If these lunatics don't know where to draw the line, some of us will not be quiet in reminding you all that you and your senseless messiah will always be paid back in the same coin," he wrote.

Concerned Nigerian offers solution to Ogogo's family
Legit.ng had reported that a concerned Nigerian shared a voice note claiming that he has medication at home that can cure stage-four cancer.
He said he has made repeated attempts to reach the family of veteran actor Ogogo but has been unable to get through to them.
The man also claimed that a woman in Ibadan who had stage-four cancer and was already experiencing hair loss later recovered and returned to work as an FRSC officer.
