Armani’s humble beginning
Born in Piacenza on July 11, 1934, Armani never imagined he would become a household name. Initially dreaming of a career in medicine, his life changed after a stint as a window dresser in Milan.
In 1975, alongside his partner Sergio Galeotti, Armani sold their Volkswagen to raise $10,000 and start a menswear label. What began as a modest venture grew into one of the most powerful fashion houses in history.
The Armani signature
Armani was best known for making understated elegance his signature. His unstructured jackets, soft fabrics, muted tones, and timeless cuts revolutionised both men’s and women’s fashion.
Hollywood also embraced his genius.
Richard Gere’s outfits in American Gigolo and countless red carpet gowns during awards season cemented Armani’s place as the designer of choice for the rich and famous.
Armani wasn’t just about clothes. His empire spanned perfumes, cosmetics, furniture, hotels, and restaurants. He even owned a basketball team, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, better known as Olympia Milano.
With two luxury hotels, one in Dubai and another in Milan, plus over 20 restaurants worldwide, Armani created a lifestyle brand that extended far beyond the runway.
As news of his death spread, tributes flooded social media. One mourner wrote: "This is the end of an era. Armani didn’t just design clothes, he defined class."
Another fan added: "Armani’s work dressed generations. Fashion will never be the same without him."
Celebrities, fashion insiders, and loyal customers alike are united in grief as they remember the man who made simplicity the ultimate luxury.
Armani's legacy is forever etched in style
Even in death, Giorgio Armani’s presence looms large. For over 50 years, his brand was a symbol of elegance, confidence, and timeless appeal.
He once famously said,
“I design for real people. Clothes must be practical, not just beautiful.” That philosophy will continue to inspire designers and fashion lovers for decades to come.
