WAEC Sends Crucial Message To Schools Ahead of 2026 Examinations

Port Harcourt, Rivers state - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has urged schools to equip their Internet Computer Technology (ICT) centres ahead of the 2026 examination.

The council said it is necessary to facilitate a smooth transition to computer-based examinations.

The WAEC Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt, Adeniran-Amusan Akim, advised schools in Rivers state during a sensitization program on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Akim said that the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) would commence fully with the 2026 diet.

As reported by Vanguard, he emphasized the need for schools to adapt to the new format.

“The computer-based exam system is here to stay, and schools must adapt to the new format and take necessary steps to comply with WAEC.”

The sensitisation programme was organised by Teadro Systems Ltd, in partnership with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, the Bank of Industry (BOI), Hewlett-Packard Company, Lenovo, and Canon.

He noted that a sensitisation programme had begun in Abuja and would be extended to all states.

The WAEC Zonal Coordinator expressed confidence that Rivers would pioneer the computer-based examination.

Akim cited the state’s remarkable interest and turnout during the sensitization campaign.

He advised schools wishing to conduct the exams within their premises to ensure they meet WAEC’s requirements, including necessary equipment and infrastructure.

WAEC is an examination board established by law to determine the examinations required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African countries.

The examination board is saddled with the responsibility to conduct the examinations and to award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities internationally.

WAEC extends CB-WASSCE registration deadline

Recall that WAEC announced an extended registration deadline for the 2025 Computer-Based WASSCE for private candidates.

WAEC disclosed the purpose of the extension, encouraging candidates to continue with their registrations.
