According to the foundation, the scholarship covers full tuition, accommodation, study materials, and an annual stipend from the students’ first year through graduation. The goal is to remove financial barriers and allow beneficiaries to concentrate fully on their academic and technical growth.
In addition to financial support, the students will receive brand-new laptops, mentorship, academic guidance, industry exposure, and structured career development support throughout the programme.
The beneficiaries are first-year students from accredited public universities across the country, including the University of Lagos, Lagos state; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu state, and Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna state.
Other institutions are the University of Benin, Edo state, Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun state, University of Ilorin, Kwara state, and Tai Solarin University of Education.
Airtel is empowering future tech leaders
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the foundation, Segun Ogunsanya, emphasised the growing influence of technology worldwide and Airtel Africa’s commitment to investing in that future.
Ogunsanya said:
"At Airtel Africa Foundation, we are making a choice. We are backing technology. We are backing African talent. We are empowering non-Africans, top performers, brilliant minds, future leaders."
Ogunsanya encouraged the scholars to remain focused on their studies as maintaining strong academic performance is essential for retaining the scholarship.
Also addressing the gathering, the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, stated that Airtel's vision is to connect people to opportunities, not just through networks, but through knowledge, skill and confidence.

He added that when young people thrive, economies expand, innovation accelerates, and social stability improves.
Balsingh said:
"The future of our digital economy is not going to be important. It's going to be built locally by young people who understand the context of the country, the nation, the culture, the code."
Balsingh noted that the scholarship programme reflects the foundation’s strong commitment to nurturing homegrown African talent and driving long-term development.
