Why petrol price been reduced
The changes follows the decision by Dangote refinery and private depot owners to slash their petrol prices.
New data shows that their ex-depot price for petrol at major depots now sells between N820 and N870 per litre.
Dangote Refinery recorded one of the biggest drops, cutting its price to N820 per litre from N850 per litre.
MRS TinCan has also reduced its depot petrol prices to N849 from the previous rate of N860, while Ardova reduced to N850, a decrease of N2 or 0.23%.
Zamson slashed its petrol price to N855, a N1 or 0.12% reduction on Tuesday.
Another depot is Parker and A&E, as both cut prices to N853, a fall of N2 or 0.23% and N1 or 0.12%, respectively.
Other changes recorded include Mao as N1 reduced its price to N850, Alkanes dropped its price by N2 to N855, while TSL, Sigmund, and Ever all priced at N860 after reducing by N3 or 0.35%.
Sobaz also made changes, slashing its price by N12 to N858, a drop of 1.38%.
Dangote set for petrol distribution
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Aliko Dangote will launch a nationwide fuel distribution programme on August 15, 2025, which is expected to help lower petrol pump prices.
Africa’s richest man plans to deploy 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks to deliver petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel directly to end-users, bypassing intermediaries.
With free delivery and possible credit facilities, Dangote’s approach poses a direct challenge to Nigeria’s traditional fuel distribution system, which relies heavily on third-party logistics providers.
