Updated: Nigeria edge past Sweden to qualify into quarterfinal

- Nigeria beat Sweden in ongoing Rio Olympics

Nigeria's Dream team have defeated Sweden in their second group game at the ongoing 2016 Rio Olympics to book a place in the quarter final.

Sadiq Umar scored a wonderful header from Amuzie's cross from the left. The Dream Team had the chance to score at least five goals with Etebo and Sadiq Umar in particular missing simple chances.

In the second half, Sweden goalie Andreas Linde saved his team more humilation, saving efforts from Etebo twice and Mikel Obi.

The Dream team now have six points from two games and have qualified for the next round.

After the match against Japan, coach Samson Siasia said: "We just won a game, we can't and won't allow this victory get into our heads. Our target here is to win the gold and this is just the first step of us achieving that aim.

"No two games are the same, for me this hurdle is over, when I wake up tomorrow I will then think of my next game."

The danger man for Sweden will be Mikael Ishak who plays his football in Denmark. Six players of the squad that became European U21 champions last year are in Brazil hoping to impress for Sweden.

The Swedes are only making their second appearance, with their previous outing coming in the 1992 games in Barcelona when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

Nigeria face Sweden in their next match to be played on Sunday August 7 at 11pm (Nigerian time).
